Sport and physical activity are important parts of school life, with tremendous emphasis placed upon enjoyment and participation.

Activities at Lower School meet the requirements of National Curriculum and allow students to taste numerous sports whilst the organisation of the timetable at Upper School affords students opportunities to experience everything from rowing to climbing to dance, as well as traditional team games. Students also have the opportunity to undertake leadership awards.

The award of Sportsmark to the school illustrates not only high participation rates during the school day but also in extra curricular activities. We have clubs which encourage a recreational approach, ranging from activities such as Volleyball, Badminton, Trampolining and Table Tennis to those which are focussed upon the Gifted and Talented.

In team games, the school has a highly successful record in regional football, netball and cricket competitions, one which is matched in more individual pursuits. We have represented the North East in recent years in the Indoor Athletics Finals, National Biathlon Finals, National Schools Golf Finals, the National Cross Country Championships, National Swimming Finals and the All England Track and Field Finals, a remarkable achievement for a state school.
