R.E. and P.F.E. Faculty Vision and Intent

RE VISION:To create thinkers who understand the details of religious and non-religious worldviews, while respecting that beliefs and lifestyles are diverse. Thinkers that foster tolerance and empathy, while  securing critical thinking skills to evaluate beliefs, alongside considering their own ethics and spirituality.

By the end of Year 11, a good RE student is empathetic to others, tolerant of difference, and knowledgeable about the detail of religious belief and practice across, and within faiths, including non-religious world-views.

In order to achieve this, we want to inspire students to:

  • Talk to friends and family about the topics and issues studied in RE
  • Be open minded when studying sources of authority and the beliefs they uphold
  • To be respectfully critical and evaluative when considering beliefs and practices that differ from their own
  • To be thoughtful and considerate of people in their lives outside school, showing understanding of different faith groups
  • Read the news and connect issues studied in RE to their lives outside school, considering the place of religion alongside globalisation
  • Make connections between RE and other subjects; Science, Geography, History and English –  deepening understanding through cross curricular links
  • Fully engage with religious tolerance and religious pluralism as key British values
