Ofsted Inspection 2025: A Proud Moment for Park View

“The school has high expectations for its pupils to achieve well. Pupils rise to this challenge and thrive in their studies.”– Ofsted

In April 2025, Park View School was inspected under Section 5 of the Education Act. Over two full days, His Majesty’s Inspectors conducted a thorough evaluation of the school, including lesson visits, student voice sessions, work scrutiny, leadership interviews, and subject deep dives across English, Maths, Science, History, Modern Foreign Languages and Art.We are pleased to share that the school was judged:

  • Good for the Quality of Education
  • Good for Behaviour and Attitudes
  • Good for Personal Development
  • Good for Leadership and Management
  • Outstanding for Sixth Form

“Pupils at Park View learn to be resilient, respectful and empathetic. This helps to create a positive learning atmosphere. The school has high expectations for its pupils to achieve well. Pupils rise to this challenge and thrive in their studies.”
— Ofsted 2025

Understanding the Report

Ofsted has recently revised how it reports on inspections, stating:

“Our reports on education will also be shorter and clearer.”

While we welcome the published outcome, the brevity of the official report does not fully capture the depth and richness of the inspection experience. The feedback given to leaders during and following the visit was significantly more detailed, powerful, and reflective of the school’s journey. Below we offer a summary that draws directly from this verbal feedback- giving a fuller and more accurate picture of the strengths of Park View.

Quality of Education: Consistently Strong, Deeply Thoughtful

Inspectors praised Park View for its ambitious, inclusive, and carefully constructed curriculum, noting that it does not narrow at any stage. Teachers were commended for their deep subject knowledge and unwavering commitment to high standards.

Subject-Specific Highlights

“The school provides pupils with a diverse curriculum that sets out the knowledge they should acquire. Knowledgeable subject teachers bring lessons to life and add clear meaning to content.” – Ofsted

Inspectors observed a consistently high standard of teaching across all subjects, with no lesson graded below Good and several described as Excellent. Teaching throughout the school was described as data-informed, responsive to student needs, and delivered with clarity, energy, and purpose.

In English, inspectors praised the “strong blend of Early Career Teachers and experienced staff,” noting that it was “an honour to see the subject through the lens of the Teaching and Learning lead in a subject context.” The curriculum was seen to be enacted with consistency and rigour, with “real strength across key stages.”

In Maths, the team highlighted “high levels of ambition” and “responsive teaching tailored to different ability groups.” Lessons were purposeful and adaptive, with “excellent use of books for retrieval and assessment.” Inspectors remarked on the department’s “model of consistency and engagement,” its “readiness to jump on misconceptions,” and the particularly strong relationships evident between staff and students, especially with newer teachers at the lower school.

The Science department stood out for its “very passionate and knowledgeable leader” and the “high-quality teaching and questioning” observed throughout. The curriculum was noted for its ambition, with a particular focus on scientific enquiry and literacy. Inspectors described the pedagogical strategies as “deeply embedded,” with “no complacency in approach.” While the implementation of the curriculum was already judged to be strong, “ambition is even higher,” and the level of challenge and quality of questioning were singled out as significant strengths.

In Modern Foreign Languages, engagement was described as “exceptional,” with teaching labelled “inventive” and “inspirational.” Students demonstrated “excellent knowledge and application,” underpinned by a “forensic use of data to inform improvement.” Behaviour in lessons was described as “superb,” and inspectors were struck by the consistency of approach, noting that “classrooms were all a model of consistency in terms of the whole school approach to teaching and learning and high expectations.”

The History department was praised for its “really high-quality curriculum” and for the “focus and consistency” of its teaching team. The quality of work in books was repeatedly highlighted as “excellent,” and inspectors were particularly impressed by how the curriculum supported the “development of independent learners.”

In Art and Design Technology, inspectors observed an “ambitious and feedback-driven curriculum” delivered by “passionate and knowledgeable” staff. Student support was strong and progress was clearly visible in their work, with feedback described as both impactful and evident in outcomes. The quality of the curriculum in Design and Technology was referred to as “stunning,” and students displayed “high levels of engagement and skill development.”

Together, these findings paint a clear picture of a school delivering consistently strong teaching across departments, characterised by ambition, rigour, and care — a culture where staff are deeply invested in their subjects and their students’ success.

Behaviour and Attitudes: Calm, Clear and Respectful

“Expectations for pupils’ behaviour are high.” and ” Pupils’ behaviour in school is calm. They understand what the school expects of them in class and during social times.” – Ofsted

Inspectors described the culture and climate at Park View as calm, orderly and purposeful. This positive environment is underpinned by a clear behaviour system and strong, trusting relationships between staff and students.

They noted that “the behaviour system is clear and staff feel supported,” with a consistent understanding across the school of how expectations are reinforced. The team praised the proactive approach to behaviour management, observing that “Senior Duty has a ‘catch it early’ approach” and that “staff intervention is swift and effective.” Importantly, they reported, “we have not seen anything where staff are not afraid to challenge students” — a reflection of staff confidence and consistency in upholding standards.

Lesson removals have “declined significantly,” suggesting that preventative measures and positive routines are embedded effectively. Throughout the inspection, students were seen to demonstrate high levels of engagement both in lessons and around the school site, contributing to a settled and focused atmosphere.

This view was echoed by staff and parents, who spoke positively about the learning environment and the overall culture of the school. Inspectors found that expectations are clearly communicated, and that students respond well to the systems in place, helping to sustain a respectful and productive climate for learning.

Attendance: Focused, Compassionate and Robust

The school’s approach to attendance is “relentless and compassionate.”

Inspectors praised Park View’s approach to attendance, not only for the strength of its outcomes but for the robust and thoughtful systems that sit behind them. The school was commended for its “relentless and compassionate approach,” underpinned by a clear understanding of the specific barriers that some students face, particularly around anxiety-related absence.

They noted that “attendance data is strong,” and recognised the school’s commitment to removing obstacles to attendance through tailored, proactive support. Interventions such as increased home visits and the cultivation of “strong relationships between families and pastoral staff” were highlighted as particularly effective in securing improvement.

The role of the SENDCo in this area was seen as pivotal. Inspectors noted the active contribution made in supporting attendance for vulnerable learners, ensuring that inclusion remains at the heart of Park View’s approach.

This dual focus on high standards and human understanding was a consistent theme throughout the inspection  and is a model of how attendance can be both rigorously managed and rooted in care

Personal Development: Broad, Global, and Grounded in Values

“Pupils smile and have fun as they engage with a wide variety of activities during and after school.” – Ofsted

Inspectors described Park View’s wider offer as “incredible” and, in many aspects, “outstanding.” They recognised a deeply embedded commitment to developing the whole child through a breadth of opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom.

The school’s International School Status and vibrant programme of trips and visits, both in the UK and abroad, were praised for broadening students’ horizons and enriching their learning experience. Opportunities in Performing Arts, Active Starts, and the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) were seen as powerful vehicles for character education, engagement, and aspiration.

Inspectors were particularly impressed by the school’s focus on mentoring and leadership development, noting how well pupils are supported to grow in confidence, responsibility, and awareness of the world around them. Students’ involvement in community activity and their understanding of leadership and service were highlighted as key strengths, reflecting a culture where young people are actively encouraged to step forward, contribute, and lead.

The only area identified for further development was to improve the consistency in the delivery and assessment of the taught Personal Development (PD) curriculum. While the wider offer was exceptionally strong, this recommendation provides a clear and actionable next step to ensure that all aspects of PD are delivered to the same high standard across the board.

This feedback reinforces what many already know: that Park View nurtures not just academic success, but confident, compassionate and outward-looking young people.

Sixth Form and Academy of Sport: Outstanding and Aspirational

“The sixth-form provision is excellent. Students thrive and enjoy being part of a high performing sixth form and achieve exceptional outcomes.” – Ofsted

The Sixth Form at Park View was one of the standout features of the inspection, earning an Outstanding judgment from His Majesty’s Inspectors. The provision was praised for its exceptional blend of academic strength and pastoral care, with teaching described unequivocally as “fantastic.”

Inspectors noted that students are articulate, proud, and well-supported, and they were particularly impressed by the depth and breadth of the enrichment offer. This includes a wide range of local, national, and international opportunities that expand students’ horizons, build confidence, and prepare them for life beyond school. Initiatives such as Active Starts and Next Steps were highlighted as meaningful and impactful additions to the curriculum, designed to support both personal development and future planning.

The leadership of both the Sixth Form and the Academy of Sport was described as “passionate,” and inspectors noted that “SLT and Trustee support is very visible.” This collaborative commitment from school leadership and governance ensures that Sixth Form students benefit from a clear vision, high expectations, and unwavering support.

Personal development within the Sixth Form was judged to be “age-appropriate and highly effective,” with specific praise for programmes covering driving tests, drink-driving awareness, and relationships, all of which reflect a well-rounded and responsive curriculum tailored to the needs of young adults.

Perhaps the most powerful endorsement came from an inspector who stated, “I would definitely send my child to the Sixth Form at Park View.” This comment captures both the confidence and credibility the provision inspires. We are a Sixth Form that balances academic excellence, character development, and care for every individual.

Leadership and Management: Reflective, Strategic and Student-Centred

“Leaders demonstrated moral purpose and student-centred decision-making, particularly in their work with disadvantaged students.”

Leadership at Park View was described by inspectors as strong at every level- reflective, morally grounded, and driven by a deep commitment to students. The inspection team recognised a school where decision-making is principled, leadership is distributed, and staff feel both supported and empowered.

The Senior Leadership Team was praised as “reflective, well-informed, and highly effective,” with clear vision and strategic direction. Inspectors found evidence of a leadership culture that places students at the centre of all decisions, particularly in work with disadvantaged learners, where moral purpose and inclusion were noted as defining features.

Middle leaders were described as confident and skilled, deeply involved in curriculum leadership and clearly visible across the subjects explored in deep dives and beyond. Their role in driving improvement and upholding high standards was highlighted as a strength, contributing significantly to the consistency and ambition seen across departments.

Staff across the school reported feeling “supported and valued,” with strong internal communication and a robust professional development culture noted as key enablers of this positive environment. Inspectors commented on the school’s collective clarity of purpose, one in which everyone is pulling in the same direction for the good of the students.

The role of Trustees was also commended. They were seen as “proactive and supportive,” with evidence of strategic involvement and appropriate challenge, reinforcing the school’s direction and priorities from a governance level.

Finally, safeguarding was described as strong, with excellent work from Designated Safeguarding Leads and the wider pastoral team. The school’s safeguarding systems were found to be secure, responsive, and well understood by staff- a reflection of leadership that is both caring and vigilant.

Taken together, this feedback reflects a school that is well-led in every sense. A leadership culture grounded in reflection, integrity, and an unshakable focus on doing what is right for young people.

This inspection represents a moment of real pride and motivation for Park View. It acknowledges what has already been achieved and sets a confident, ambitious direction for what comes next.
