The educational needs of most of our students are met through carefully structured work in the classroom, balancing support and challenge for children of every ability level. Some students, however, encounter a variety of learning difficulties. We undertake liaison with primary schools to identify appropriate support strategies, and then monitor and assess individuals throughout school. We aim to provide support as far as possible within the resources available. If necessary, additional support can be requested from the Local Authority; this will be organised by the Special Needs Coordinator, Mr R Zabrocki or Mrs W Collingwood, Deputy Special Educational Needs Coordinator, after full consultation with parents/carers. Mr Zabrocki can be contacted on 0191 3882248 / [email protected] and Mrs Collingwood can be contacted on [email protected]. The SEND Governor is Mr Adamson and can be contacted by members of staff in the school office at Church Chare.
The school identifies and supports students with specific academic, sporting or musical gifts, providing a range of extension and enrichment opportunities for them throughout the academic year. The school SEN Policy can be accessed here.
All Local Authorities in the UK must publish a Local Offer about the services and provision available in their area for children and young people from 0 to 25 who have Special Educational Needs and/or a Disability (SEND). The Local Offer for Durham County Council can be found here: http://www.countydurhamfamilies.info/kb5/durham/fsd/localoffer.pageIn addition, every school has to publish what they offer their own pupils. Park View School is an inclusive school and caters for a wide range of individual needs. Please feel free to view Park View School SEND Information Report below which explains in more detail the provision for students with SEND.
Please contact Mr Zabrocki at the school should you require a printed copy of this document.
