Design Faculty Vision and Intent
The Design Faculty is unique, our students are too. We would hope to cherish and nurture this quality, embracing individuality and supporting above all else independence and creativity in everything we and they do. We value risk taking, actively encourage challenge and support the theory that there is no right answer.
Over time we hope to develop a curiosity in our students; we want them to question and challenge us so that eventually they put us to the test, developing concepts and ideas that we may not have seen before. We would hope that they would match our sense of fun and adventure and that they too will find joy in discovering something new. We want them to be genuinely proud of their work and to feel like they have ownership. In short we would hope that they would take charge of their own progress and it’s our role to help them to build the necessary skills to be able to do this successfully; this will underpin everything we do.
In order to achieve this, we want to inspire and support our students to:
- Generate and develop their ideas with increasing creativity and confidence, communicating their thoughts in a variety of ways that include 2D, 3D and Computer Aided Design.
- To develop the knowledge to be able to identify and specify materials and processes, including new technologies, with increasing understanding.
- Realise their intentions by making outcomes from a variety of materials, using skill and accuracy to meet the needs of intended users.
- Analyse and evaluate not only their own work, but also the work of others, making judgements and thinking critically about the decisions that designers make and how they are influenced.
