Music Department Vision and Intent
As a department, our vision is to inspire our students to develop strong identities as musicians, regardless of previous experience. We want students to develop their musical skills (including performance, composition, appraising), as well as an appreciation for music beyond the classroom.
Across the curriculum students will develop an understanding of the technical (instrument control and technique), constructive (the elements of music) and expressive pillars of music. Our aim is to deliver an ambitious and accessible curriculum that inspires students and empowers them to study and enjoy music at KS4 and beyond.
The Music Department wishes to create confident, creative and resilient learners, who can collaborate successfully with others to produce innovative and imaginative work; and to create reflective learners who can evaluate and analyse their work honestly and critically in order to make progress. We will provide students with opportunities to take part in music beyond the classroom, and hope to showcase classroom work to boost self-confidence and give experiences that they can carry forward into adult life. Students should also have the opportunity to experience live music, and participate in music activities outside of school.
